It stretches into the future.
It stretches into an ocean.
It stretches into the feeling of being still
even though you know you're in motion.
But if you could just see it
In just the right light
You wouldn't be so quick to leave it
In some stranger's hands tonight.
And I see it.
It's my curse.
Can't believe it
A kind of the worst.
And the feelings that you had, you had them for a while.
And the dreams that you had, you put them in a pile.
And the days you felt sad you still put on that smile.
In some ways you were glad to finally put away my file.
Crushing
My throat
With the weight
Of perception.
It stretches into tomorrow.
It stretches into a river.
It stretches into an alternate ending
to a letter that I hand deliver.
But if you could just read it,
or give it a cursory glance,
You'll notice the last line's repeated
It needed a second chance.
